you don’t necessarily spend decades on a single thing. you can do multiple things simultaneously. it’s subjective.

eg: steve, musk, sama

they handled multiple things simultaneously and pretty beautifully.

but the point stands for choosing major themes to work on

most focused getting quick buck first and then going all-in on the major ideas

musk started with finance and then chose the themes - space ai and renewable energy (later social and politics)

sama made quick buck with his first startup. fked around. vc. then decided to go all in on ai and energy (nuclear)

steve and bill are unique in the case that their first venture turned out to be their life venture. they identified the power and potential of computers early and then went all-in

i think ai (agi) is the most important thing rn and good people (labs) are already working on it. you can’t make a significant change in the research direction without working in the frontier labs. (compute is the key)

so i am still exploring the stuff where i can have a huge impact.
